Still waiting for a teaching contract

Many of you know that Jim's choice career is an elementary teacher (4-6th grade).

He graduated in November 2008, which made it hard to get a teaching job right away, because it was mid-school year. We were extremely blessed that he got 2 long term substitute positions for ladies that were on maternity leave, which blessed us that he never went a day without work during the rest of the school year. (we had been told that many subs were not getting any work at all) Then the school year ended and Jim was hopeful that he would get hired for the next school year. This is when we realized how much the economy had effected his career goals. You would think that there is always a need for good teachers, but school budgets were hugely suffering, and schools were firing instead of hiring. We remained hopeful, and soon we heard that school districts were starting to hire back teachers that they had fired, and would soon be able to hire new teachers. The wait continued through the summer until 2 weeks before school started. Jim was able to have a few interviews, but kept getting beat out by teachers with more experience. Jim has a great resume, and has very high recommendations. The staff at every school he taught till this point has mentioned his natural talent that has wowed them all. We are confident that he is perfect for this job, but we are still waiting for the right school/fit. Now school has started. We are told that because of the bad budget, schools were not able to hire the amount of teachers needed, and classes rooms are too full. The rumor is that schools were waiting for the 1st 10 school days to verify the amount of students in the classrooms before they would hire more teachers to spread the classes out. This is our last hope for this school year. We are waiting a little longer to see if he might get hired as one of those teachers. If not Jim will have to put his teaching career on hold. We pray everyday that a miracle will happen. There are many things we have learned from this experience, mostly FAITH, PATIENCE, and GRATITUDE. Though this has been one of the hardest times we have been through, we have never felt more LOVE from our Heavenly Father, and feel so blessed to have been given this special time to spend as a family! Whatever happens, we know it will be for the best.

Brooke it was nice seeing you on the freeway!! We really need to get together soon!! I am so sorry Jim hasn't found a job yet. I can't imagine how hard that must be. I will certainly keep my ears open for anything around here. After the first 10 days the schools can take out the "no shows" and you have a pretty good idea of what your actual attendance count is - that gives you an idea of how much funding you will get. As soon as that happens they will probably start hiring. Mesa high is starting to have auditorium classes because they have so many kids in a classroom!!! It is ridiculous!! Hopefully as soon as the ten days are up, things will open up for him....
Our 10 days are up this Friday, so it should be soon!
We love you and we will keep you in our prayers!
How are you feeling?

It's so sad to me that teachers are being let go and are having problems finding jobs. Good teachers are priceless! I hope he finds a job soon:)

Jim will be a GREAT teacher! I have always thought that! If I had a school, he really would be the first person I would hire. I still remember that campfire skit he did with the kids at the ward camp out 3 years ago! We're praying for you!
